A successful Open Day for the London School of Film, Media
& Performance
The Regent's College Open Day on Saturday 14 August was well
attended by current and prospective applicants to the College,
their parents and friends.
More than 100 people attended the Open Day in the morning, with
the majority deciding to stay on in the afternoon for the much
anticipated London School of Film, Media & Performance (LSFMP)
'taster' workshops in acting, the creative industries and
screenwriting.

Overview of LSFMP Undergraduate Courses
Head of School, David Hanson, provided an informative overview
of the portfolio of undergraduate courses at LSFMP.
He emphasised the strong practical application of the programmes
that have been designed in consultation with working professionals
across the creative industries, to ensure the development of
contemporary, relevant skills.
He also explained the School's holistic approach to the
provision of education for the creative industries' leaders of
tomorrow.
LSFMP students will provide each other with support and
resources across the different programmes; for example, students on
the
BA (Hons) Acting and Global Theatre degree will stage pieces
written by students on the
BA (Hons) Screenwriting & Producing degree.
Contemporary Advertising Strategies
Tristan Tull's workshop on the creative industries entertained
the audience, but also provided much food for thought. Focusing on
contemporary advertising strategies, he explained the different
human emotions and values desires to which advertisers will
appeal.
With examples ranging from the use of sporting celebrities in
'aspirational' advertising, to more edgy, daring online campaigns,
he demonstrated advertisers' effective manipulation of audiences'
expectation and desires.

Screenwriting Workshop
The screenwriting workshop showcased a short Pixar film to
demonstrate a writer's use of 'turning points', the key moments in
a script that determine the sequence of events that lead the hero
(in this case a cute, animated snowman) toward his objective.
David Hanson challenged workshop attendees with a series of
thought provoking questions on the film, to aid their appreciation
and understanding of plot structure.
Open Day attendees were galvanized into action in the acting
workshop, led by Valerie Kaneko-Lucas and Anna Sullivan.
Working individually, as well as in small and large groups,
prospective acting students were faced with a number of fun,
hands-on tasks, to allow them to gain an understanding of the kinds
of practical activities incorporated into both the Acting
Foundation Course and the BA (Hons) Acting & Global Theatre
degree.
The next Regent's College London Open Day is on Tuesday 5
October.
