The IT Centre
There are around 140 designated Open Access
workstations located around the College, providing 24 hour a day, 7
days a week access to computing facilities for all students.
In addition, there are workstations in classrooms and other
specific areas with varying hours of availability for general
student use whenever they are not in use for teaching, as it is the
College’s policy to maximise the availability of computing
facilities for students.
Open Access Area
The Student IT Open Access Area, located in the basement of the
Jebb
building, comprises around 70 networked workstations, equipped
with applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, Read and
Write Gold, Inspiration and many other programmes and utilities
These facilities are available to students 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week, and IT Support staff are on hand to
assist with problems during 'core' hours (including late hours on
weeknights, as detailed below).
Multi-Function Printer/Copiers
The IT Centre also hosts high-capacity multi-function
printer/copiers, which provide black-and-white and colour printing
and photocopying, to cater for students' document production needs.
Other multi-function devices are located all around campus, and
print jobs can be collected from any of these devices, regardless
of where they were sent from.
Another 45 workstations are located within three teaching rooms
adjacent to the IT Open Access Area and these machines are
available for general student use outside class times. In addition
to the standard suite of software, these computers also contain
specialist software packages.
Postgraduate Area
There are also around 20 workstations located in the Post
Graduate area, specifically for use by Post Grads (open 24/7), and
32 in the Library which are available for use the entire time the
Library is open – this is also 24/7 during critical times such as
end-of-term and exam periods.
Apple Mac Lab
A dedicated Mac lab also exists in the Tuke building, complete
with their own suite of specialised software.
Thompson Reuters Room
Also located in the Tuke Building is the Thompson Reuters Room,
and an additional 21 Open Access workstations are available in Tuke
Building, Room 245.
Halls of Residence Workstations & Laptop Connections
A small number of workstations are also available in the lobby
area of the student Halls of Residence, as well as a dedicated
copier/printer and plug-in points for personal laptops.
Wireless Connections (Wi-Fi)
Wireless (Wi-Fi) access is available right across campus and
provision is made for the connection of a full range of student
devices. Access to student resources from off-campus is provided by
the use of Citrix technology.
