A full-time degree in Producing for the Creative Media Industries

This three-year undergraduate degree programme educates students in the mechanics and practices of the creative industries to develop transferable producing skills which can be applied across the creative media sector.

A recent study by the UK Government showed that over 2 million people are employed in the British creative industries. Leaps forward in digital video, on-demand TV, streaming video and the internet have seen the creative and entertainment industries expanding at ever increasing rates, as has the need for skilled recruits to join the industry.

The Creative Industries Course Covers

Additionally the course covers aspects of script craft and script literacy, and examine the roles of production executives, script editors, project developers, agents and distributors.  Emphasis will also be placed on people management, mediation and interpersonal skills, and the demands of creative cooperation and group dynamics.

The course contains an industry placement and a unit in which students will sample the craft of the industry at first hand by creating a production of their own – film, TV documentary or other media artefact.

Students learn through lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, and also have the opportunity to specialise in preferred media areas through case studies, in turn leading to a Year Three dissertation on a specific area of creative production.  The syllabus allows students to work both individually and in groups, thus replicating industry practice.

Who Should Take This Course?

The course is targeted at those wishing to work in the creative industries but without necessarily being an originator of material, and at those who wish to develop as practitioners but desire also to strengthen their employability and their understanding of the industry by operating from a different perspective from that of the traditional director or writer.  The course intends to provide the broad training necessary for anyone seeking to work at any level in the creative industry.
