Module Descriptions

Level 1, Semester 1 - Direct tuition of 13.5 hours per week, accruing 60 credits.

Script Analysis, Development and Presentation

This module develops an understanding of script craft, screenwriting practice and language. It covers:

  • Script formatting and terms
  • Script planning
  • Story and plot refinement
  • Story expression
  • Oral and written pitching
  • The function of 'the treatment'
  • Development of initial idea through to screenplay

This is a 20 credit module with seven hours of direct tuition per week, lead by David Hanson with additional input from screen industry writers and producers.

The Business of the Creative Producer

This module guides students in the basic functions and structures of business and the global environment. It deals with the effects of the following factors on decisions within the creative industies:

  • Politics
  • Economics
  • Law
  • Social and cultural factors
  • Changing technology

This is a 20 credit module with two assessment tasks developed through four hours of direct tuition per week, and is lead by Tommie Anderson-Jacquest with additional input from Ian Farmer and Judith Noble.

Introduction to Study and IT Skills

This module is designed to provide students with highly developed skills in:

  • Note taking
  • Computer applications needed for screen production
  • Presentation techniques
  • Organisation and management

This is a 10 credit module, taught in 2.5 hours per week by Peter Verdon.
