Carole is a staff and educational developer who took early retirement in July 2011 in order to pursue a portfolio career to include rather more time for family (grandparenting) and travel.
She graduated from the University of Manchester in 1971 and then worked in administrative and academic roles in a range of polytechnics and universities. In the late 1990s she led the National Co-ordination Team for HEFCE’s Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund, supporting educational change projects and advising on institutional learning and teaching strategies. She gained a Fellowship of the Staff and Educational Development Association in 1995 and an MA in Education in 1996.
Carole became Regional Director for the Open University in the North West in 2002, providing support to the 15000 students and 700 associate lecturers in the region. For the last five years she has lead the Planning and Development function in Student Services at the Open University, managing the Regional Directors and leading the provision of infrastructure to support the University’s 250,000 students.
She was a member of the Board of the Hallé Concerts Society for seven years and has been a Director and member of Council of the Higher Education Academy. She was Chair of the Staff and Educational Development Association from 1995 to 1998 and President of the International Consortium for Educational Development from 1998 to 2000.
Carole became a Trustee of Regent’s University London in October 2010 and Interim Chair of the Board in December 2014.
