Paul's career in Higher Education started at Staffordshire University as Deputy Director of Recreational Services, Director of the Regional Sports Performance Centre and Institute for Health Research. He was then appointed Postgraduate Lead and External Partnerships Director. This involved the co-ordination of postgraduate provision within the Health area and the strategic management of external projects and partnerships.


Paul then moved to Newman University Birmingham as Head of department for Physical Education and Sport Studies. This involved the overall leadership of the subject area specifically in maintaining the highest quality standards in service and delivery to Newman's students. Paul was then promoted to the post of Associate Dean in the School of Human Sciences where he worked with, and directed, School and Service colleagues in the development of a formative student experience and the validation of new programmes and initiatives. He played a significant role in the advancement of an innovative culture for learning, teaching and scholarly activity whilst still maintaining an appropriate teaching and scholarly profile within his own discipline. He led on the Schools growth projects and contributed at a corporate level through the chairing and membership of a range of boards and committees.


Paul recently joined Regent’s University London as the Pro Vice-Chancellor Student Experience and Dean of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. As a member of the University’s senior management team Paul has responsibility for specific aspects of the University’s corporate strategy and activity which includes developing a comprehensive strategy for improving the student experience. Paul believes in promoting a strong and positive external profile, both nationally and internationally, for the Faculty and the University through effective engagement with external organisations, networks and stakeholders and actively developing international partnerships which support, promote and contribute to the University’s Internationalisation Strategy.


His role looks to provide strategic leadership for the HASS Faculty to ensure achievement of the University’s strategic priorities at Faculty level as well as across the whole University, implementing the University’s corporate, financial, human resource, equality and health and safety strategies. This role allows Paul to work closely with the senior management team and Faculty colleagues to establish a clear vision for the Faculty and pro-actively engage Faculty colleagues in developing its future direction. He leads continuous improvement in the Faculty, working towards sustained strength across pedagogy, research and professional practice, whilst ensuring an outstanding experience for students.


Research Interests

Paul is a Research Fellow at Stellenbosch University in South Africa and a Stipend Professor at Guangdong University of Education in Guangzhou China. His research interests include the impact and interaction of stakeholders in policy communities, (in particular elite sport), and the role and impact of stakeholders in the development of public policy. In addition he has recently conducted a number of National and International evaluations on the challenges facing policy makers and education partners in the areas of Health and Education.
