Professional Biography

After graduating from the University of California, Alan moved to France and pursued his higher education at l'Institut des Sciences Politiques and HEC Hautes Etudes Commerciales before embarking on a 15 year career as a global capital market specialist working out of Paris, Zurich and London. Over the past 13 years, he has mobilised this experience of international business within an academic framework. Building on an academic translation business specialising in economic and commercial research, Alan's research activities focused initially on politics and finance (c.f. involvement in the currency transaction tax campaign).

This was followed by the publication of an Oxford University Press textbook entitled “International Business: Challenges and Choices”, already in its second edition. Subsequently came work in the new discipline of Ecology and Management, culminating in another textbook. This latter strand has been bolstered since 2010 by Alan's election as Councillor in London Borough, where he has served as Cabinet Member for Economic Regeneration and Business since 2014, following a four year stint as Chair of the Council’s Sustainability scrutiny panel. Responsibilities in Alan’s current Cabinet role include strategic leadership on the £3bn Meridian Water development project, founding Energetik aka Lee Valley Heat Network (where he serves as Chairman of the Board), infrastructure and other negotiations with Government and the Greater London Authority, inwards investment and employability.
