Regent’s University London is delighted to be hosting the Desmond Tutu Youth Summit For Peace in collaboration with the Tutu Foundation UK.
Location: Regent's University London - Tuke Hall
The Summit will bring together a diverse group of young people from different geographic areas, youth institutions, economic and cultural backgrounds to learn, engage and be inspired to build peace in their own lives, communities and the world at large. The participants will also help shape the direction of the Tutu Foundation’s work with young people in the UK by creating a new Tutu Peace Ambassador Charter. The University is also looking forward to welcoming Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s daughter, Reverend Mpho Tutu who will deliver the keynote address
The Summit is a real collaboration between the University and Tutu Foundation UK. In total we have 19 students and 8 members of staff who have volunteered their time to assist with the co-ordination, social media, filming and facilitation of workshops. In addition, we have secured a number of spaces for our students to take part as participants.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu said of the Summit “When I come to the UK, I am always humbled by the action for change being taken by young people themselves, with support from our Tutu Foundation UK, working right here in London. It is wonderful to receive good news and you know it reminds us that the smallest child, in the most difficult circumstances, is able to do bit of good wherever they are; and you see it is those little bits of good put together that will overwhelm the word.”
The Summit, marks the third collaboration between Regent’s University London and the Tutu Foundation UK. In 2012 the University worked with the Foundation to design a mediation course and in the same year Regent’s sent a delegation to the ‘International Conference on Conflict’ held in South Africa.
