A lecture with Amy Thomas, Lecturer in Interior Histories on the BA (Hons) Interior Design and Teaching Fellow in Architectural History at the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.

Location: First Floor studio, Paddington Street Building

Amy’s research investigates the architectural history of financial centres and the relationship between the structures of the financial system and the environment in which it operates.

Her PhD looks beyond the iconic City skyline to the everyday environments that make up London’s financial centre, from streets to boardrooms and trading floors.

The research aims to go beyond the idea that buildings are purely historical artefacts, to ask whether buildings have shaped the sociology of finance? Amy’s interest in this area emerged when researching her master’s thesis on the architectural history of the London Stock Exchange, which subsequently won the RIBA President’s Award for Outstanding Master’s Degree Thesis 2012.
