Asia-Pacific Encounters Week Day 2

Program of Events for Tuesday 21st April 2009

  • 10:00 - 11:30 Cross-Cultural Management and Latin American Perspectives (Tuke 301) Carlos A. Gonzalez Carrasco, External Guest Speaker.
  • 12:00 - 13:00 Sustainable Development in South Asia and My Own Project to Reduce Poverty (Darwin 204) Aliar Hossain, Regent's College Alumni. This seminar will examine the topic of sustainable development and its effects on business and the environment.  
  • 13:00 - 14:00 Presentation by Global Xchange (Darwin 204) A return volunteer from the global exchange programme will give insight into their experiences and answer questions.
  • 15:00 - 16:30 Panel Discussion: "Doing Business in Asia" (Darwin 204) David Parrish (Japan and panel Chair); Professor Jonathan Liu (China); Eric Chan (South East Asia) and Dr. Vick Krishnan (South Asia). Each panel member will speak for 5-10 minutes on how to approach business in the Asian region.
  • 15:30 - 17:30 Film: Spirited Away (Tuke Cinema) Dr. Valerie Keneko Lucas, Regent's College will introduce this iconic Japanese animated movie.
  • 17:30 - 18:30 Capoeira Workshop (Dance Studio) A workshop demonstrating the Brazilian practice of Capoeira which incorporates dance, song, music and martial arts.
  • 18:00 - 19:00 Seminar: Japanese Manga, its Influence in Latin America and Copyright Issues (Darwin 204) Dr. Fernando Barrio, Regent's College.
  • 19:00 - 21:15 Film: The Motorcycle Diaries (Tuke Cinema) Professor Mark Allinson, Regent's College. Professor Allinson will introduce this film which chronicles the story of Ernesto "Che" Guevara's epic journey through 1950s Latin America.
  • 19:00 - Late Asia-Pacific Quiz Night (Sports Bar) Area specific general knowledge quiz, with prizes to be won.
