Access at Regent's College

Regent's College has a Disability Access Statement, which details the overall accessibility for disabled people travelling around the College. A ramp leads to the Main Entrance of the College:Front Entrance Ramp

A wheelchair platform lift is available for use just inside the Main Entrance: Wheelchair platform lift at College main entrance

Main Reception provides access for anyone using a wheelchair (see picture). From the Main Reception, there is ramped access to the Quadrant and adjacent buildings (see picture).

There is a map available that shows accessibility around the College, as well as disabled parking facilities (see pictures of parking spaces).

The College has specialist Evacuation Chairs in situ. These can be used in the event of an emergency evacuation from any of the College buildings and enable a physically disabled person exit safely via the stairs, with assistance. A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan can be drawn up as necessary, in consultation with the College Fire Officer.

Accessible toilets

Wheelchair accessible toilets are situated throughout the College:

  • Herringham Building: one on the ground floor and one in the basement;
  • Darwin Building: basement;
  • Acland Building;
  • Reid Hall: access for students in residence only;
  • Oliver Building (near the Refectory and Brasserie);
  • Tuke Building: a person using a wheelchair can access this via the Sports Bar. A toilet with additional handrails (although not wheelchair accessible) is located on the second floor of Tuke Building.

Access to classes

Some classes are located on the ground floor, and most others are delivered in teaching rooms accessed via a lift and stairs. However, a few teaching rooms are only accessible via stairs. Therefore, if a student has a condition that affects their mobility and they require either ground floor or lift accessible rooms, please notify Faculty Registry as soon as possible. It is advisable for a disabled student to also contact the Disability Officer. Please note that the lift in Jebb Building is accessed by doors with swipe card access. Either ask a staff member for help or contact Security (near Main Reception) in order to have swipe card access authorised.

Enquiries

If disabled visitors have any queries about accessibility prior to visiting the College they are encouraged first to contact the department that they are visiting. If they are unsure who to address their query to they can contact Main Reception switchboard, who should be able to give them the relevant contact details. Staff will liaise with the Disability Officer, if required.

"I find the community at Regent’s American College London incredibly international with students from all over the world.  This was the kind of environment that I wanted to study in, because this is the kind of environment I grew up in. London is an amazing city with a very large cultural life.  I believe that anyone can broaden their horizons by living in London and studying at the Regent’s American College London."
