How to disclose a disability/specific learning difficulty: Information for students

A student may disclose a disability or specific learning difficulty (SpLD) at any stage during their studies. Some long-term health conditions and some mental health conditions may be considered to fit the definition of 'disability' according to UK law. It is therefore advisable to disclose any such condition, too. It is best for a student to inform the College as early possible, so that  individual needs can be discussed, and any arrangements made for necessary adjustments, within the resources available.

Students are given the opportunity to disclose a disability/SpLD on the College Application Form or UCAS form (where appropriate). Information on how to disclose a disability is also provided at Open Days, which the Disability Officer attends. Students may also contact the Admissions Officer, External Relations Department, Head of Student Support (for Regent's Business and the European Business School students only) or Disability Officer directly if they wish to disclose any such condition.

If a student discloses a disability at the admissions stage, they should be contacted by the Disability Officer and invited to discuss their requirements prior to enrolling on the degree programme. If they require any reasonable adjustments/accommodations as a result of their disability or health condition, they will need to provide written evidence of their disability (see Disability FAQs for more information).

Disclosing after starting a course

If a student has a disability which they do not disclose prior to registering on their programme of study, the Disability Officer will be available during Induction Week, and throughout the semester. A student can arrange to meet the Disability Officer if they wish to disclose or discuss any such condition.  All discussions or information regarding any such conditions will be treated in a confidential manner. Please note, if a disabled student needs special arrangments for their examinations (e.g. extra time) the Disability Officer must send the student's Support Agreement to Registry one month before the examination date. This allows sufficient time for the necessary arrangements. Therefore, early disability disclosure is encouraged.

"RBS London helped equip me for my career. Through the Design classes on offer, they have opened a new window, changed my way of thinking and my views of design through Business Management. I love living in London because of the accessibility of everything it has to offer and the design, art and fashion it has."
