Travelling to Regent’s College London
From Heathrow
This is the closer airport, located in the west-by-southwest
suburbs of London - the busiest international airport in the
world.
You have a few options:
- Taxicab -
Expensive (about £50), but
simple. It might be worthwhile to share with someone else (if
they’re going to Regent’s College as well). Ask for ‘Regent’s
College, on the Inner Circle of Regent’s Park.’
- National Express -
This bus stops outside
each of the 4 terminals and travels to Victoria coach station
(5-minute walk from Victoria Station proper). Takes about an hour
and costs £4. You can then get a cab for about £8, or take the Tube
from Victoria station to Baker Street station (requires a transfer
at GreenPark or Oxford Circus).
- The Heathrow Express/Heathrow Connect -
A
high-speed train linking Heathrow to Paddington. It costs £14/£8
and only takes 15/40minutes (faster than the Tube). It's then a
short cab ride to the college (£8 - £10) or a quick Tube journey
from Paddington station to Baker Street station.
- The Tube -
Pretty easy and cheap too (£6 cash, £4 with an Oyster card). Follow
the signs to the Underground and take the Piccadilly line train to
Piccadilly Circus (this takes about 45 minutes). If you still have
the stamina, change to the Bakerloo Line and get off at Baker
Street. Alternatively, take a cab from Piccadilly Circus to the
College for around £7.
From Gatwick
This is the large airport about 30 miles to the south of the
city, where those fortunate enough not to fly into Heathrow go.
Farther away, however, means more money. Basically the same
options:
- Taxicab -
Once again expensive, but
simple. Will cost about £60. Again, you may wish to share one with
one or two others; again, ask for “Regent’s College, Inner Circle,
Regent’s Park.”
- National Express/Easybus -
Very similar
to the Heathrow bus service. Takes on average 1 hour and 30 minutes
and costs from £6.60.
- Gatwick Express Train
A direct train to
Victoria Station, leaves every 15 minutes, takes 30 minutes, costs
£15.90, £11 if you already have your ISIC card. At Victoria, you
can take the Tube. Take the Victoria Line, northbound to Oxford
Circus. Change to the northbound Bakerloo Line and get off at Baker
Street. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Victoria for about
£8.
- Local Rail ServiceLocal rail service also
operates between Gatwick and Victoria Station. Same as the Gatwick
Express except it makes a couple stops along the way, takes 5-10
minutes longer, and costs just £8.90.
Taking A Taxi
As a student newly arrived and looking confused, you are
an easy target for unlicensed ‘cab’ drivers, who may well approach
you in Tube stations, particularly at Victoria station, offering
you a taxi. Just Say No.
Never take a cab ride from anyone but a licensed black taxi, the
funny looking cars with the yellow ‘taxi’ sign on top. Anyone else
will probably rip you off and make you feel really stupid.
