Jack Blake

Visiting Lecturer

Professional Biography

Jack is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader on Regent's' Graphic and Digital Design course. With a career in graphic design spanning several decades, she spent her early working life at various London-based design studios, working on branding, packaging, exhibition design, illustrations and editorials.

In 2001, Jack entered the education sector, by lecturing at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), before assuming a Senior Lecturer role at University of the Arts London (UAL) in 2004. Both roles saw her establishing typo/graphics approaches, challenging methods to design thinking, and exploring how one's physical environment can shape and alter their approaches to design.

Alongside her academic endeavours, Jack is co-founder of a print and book arts studio, where the local environment became the inspiration to the company's work. A combination of working with lo-fi techniques and running workshops in the outdoors has enabled her professional work to respond to "whatever is thrown at it".

After 12 years at UAL, Jack took on bicycle ride through 23 countries, during which she researched the history and current practice of paper-makers and paper from the West-East-West.

Research Interests

In 2019, Jacky concluded a 17-month research project while cycling through China, Japan and to the US. The project – titled "Cycling the Paper Road" –captured aspects of the history of paper-making and papermakers/artists through 23 countries and across 18,000km. This project is due to culminate in a publication. Jacky is driven by work that is inspired by the outdoors and local environment.
