Dr Carla Gibbes is a Chartered Psychologist and a member of the Division of Occupational Psychology. She is a Psychology Graduate from Goldsmiths and went to City University to complete her MSc in Occupational Psychology. Her PhD explored the experience of stress in the Police Service using a mixed methodological approach.
As an applied psychologist. She has worked with the police to evaluate the effectiveness of police driver training. She has researched attributional bias in Stop and Search practice, and assessed the relationship between ethnicity of male sexual offenders to their victims.
She has worked on a range of consultancy projects for both public and private organisations including Redbridge Borough Council where she assessed the effectiveness of health and well-being checks for carers. She has presented her research at both national and international conferences. Her research areas cover stress management and policing.
Dr Gibbes has supervised undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate research in Occupational Psychology. She is an advocate for mixed methodology and aims to motivate and encourage her students to produce the best work they can.
