The seminar: The Eastern Challenge for the European Union will be led by distinguished experts in the field and chaired by the Chancellor of Regent’s University London, Professor John Drew.
Sir Robert Francis Cooper KCMG, MVO
Sir Robert has served as a British diplomat and advisor that has been a Special Advisor at the European Commission with regard to Myanmar. He is also a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations and is an acclaimed publisher on foreign affairs. He has worked as Director-General for External and since 2007 he has also been a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr Quentin Peel
Quentin Peel is Mercator senior fellow at the Royal Institute for International Affairs (Chatham House) in London, and a freelance commentator for the Financial Times. In a long career at the FT he was correspondent in Berlin, Bonn, Brussels and Moscow and previously Africa .
Quentin was foreign editor of the FT newspaper from 1994-98, and chief foreign affairs columnist from 1998-2008. He was bureau chief in Brussels from 1984-87, in Moscow 1988-91, and Bonn from 1991-94.In 2010, he returned to Germany to be based in Berlin as chief correspondent, with responsibility for writing about wider European affairs, including the EU and relations with Russia. He is a regular speaker and broadcaster on international relations, the global economy, and European politics.
Mr Ivan Volodin
Ivan Volodin entered the Russian diplomatic service in 2001. A lawyer by education, he has spent a number of years with the Russian MFA Legal Department. In 2011, he joined the Russian Embassy in London as Head of Foreign Policy Team. In that capacity, he is responsible for Russia-UK dialogue on topical international issues, including the crises in Syria and Iraq, the situation in Afghanistan, the negotiations over the Iranian nuclear programme, and, of course, Russia-EU relations and the current crisis in Ukraine.
Professor John Drew, Chancellor, and Director of iCES will chair the event
A former UK diplomat in Paris, Kuwait and Bucharest, John has held the positions of Director of International Corporate Affairs at Rank Xerox and Director of European Affairs at Touche Ross International. He has been the Representative of the European Commission in the UK and is the Chancellor, and Director of the Institute of Contemporary European Studies at Regents University London.
