The 3rd Year Abroad Conference - The Year Abroad: Reimagined
In the era of Brexit and Covid-19, the benefits for students engaging in a language-based Year Abroad are more valuable than ever, to boost language and cultural skills, resilience and employability in a globalising world. Yet ensuring YA success creates challenges for students and staff particularly in the current climate of uncertainty over the future of modern language degrees, access to Erasmus and global slowdown. What does the re-imagined YA look like?
The 3rd Year Abroad Conference, virtually hosted by Keele University and Regent’s University London on 17 September 2021, provides a platform for academic and professional staff involved in YA to come together to share their expertise, experience and practice in all aspects of the YA.
The day will include talks and workshops providing both practical and research-focused activities (see call for papers below). Invited speakers, including Prof Colin Riordan (Cardiff University) and Ms Celia Partridge (Universities UK International) will offer specialist insights into student experiences during YA, and how to boost employability opportunities longer-term, preparing our students for new horizons in Europe and beyond.
