Graduation Survival Guide

Your graduation day is going to be one of the most memorable events in your life - a chance to celebrate academic achievements in the company of family, friends and colleagues. We’ve put together our top ten tips to help you prepare and make the most of your Graduation Day.

Top 10 tips for Graduation

1. Eat a really good breakfast
As you'll find out, graduation ceremonies are the longest thing in the world. You'll survive a lot better if your tummy isn't rumbling. So make sure you fill up on lots of food and water beforehand so you're ready for anything.

2. Timing is everything
Whether your ceremony is at 11am or 3pm, it's important that you read all the ceremony details ahead of the day, to ensure that everything runs smoothly and on time.

3. The hats are complicated
When you get it fitted, your hat will look/feel like it is on back to front, but just trust them. Wear your cap with pride! Also, don’t pretend you're too cool for that hat-throwing photo, it’s a rite of passage to throw. Don't let your pride get in the way of taking a brilliant snap.

4. Fancy footwear
We all want you to look good on your big day – after all, you deserve to look and feel your best! Do remember that you’ll be on your feet for most of the day so wear comfortable footwear that won’t leave you hobbling across the stage! We've all seen the graduation falling-over fail videos. They're the worst. But don't panic, you’ll be fine!

5. Try not to rush across the stage
You’re more likely to take a fall, and it’s a sure giveaway that you are nervous. Walk slower than usual, acknowledge the person giving you your award, be yourself and enjoy your moment.

6. Get snapping
Graduation will be one of the most memorable days of your life, so make sure to capture it all on your phone and camera.

7. Don’t take the speeches for granted
It’s so easy to dismiss graduation speech clichés, but the speaker telling you to “dream big, seek challenges and seize the day” has got to where they are today by doing exactly that.

8. Stay in the moment
It can be boring, family can be stressful, but do your best to appreciate every minute of it!

9. Keep in touch
Regent’s University London is overwhelmingly proud of all of its graduates and we hope you will keep in touch through the Regent’s University London Alumni team.

10. And finally…Enjoy yourself!
Your graduation ceremony is the result of all your hard work and academic success. Enjoy the day and be proud of all you have achieved.

Congratulations to everyone who will be graduating in our 2021 Graduation Ceremonies. Everyone here at Regent’s University London are wishing you the best of luck with all of your future endeavours.
