Sport and fitness

At Regent's we committed to providing accessible and affordable sports and fitness sessions for our students.

Be a part of Regent's Sport

We are proud to have five competitive clubs:

  • Men’s Basketball
  • Men’s Football
  • Mixed Volleyball
  • Polo
  • Women’s Basketball

We love to support and celebrate our teams sporting achievements

Regent's men’s football team finished top of the division two LUSL league for the 2017/2018 season; after an impressive season of consecutive wins. The 2018/2019 season will spark the inception of our new men’s football second team and the club’s participation in the BUCS Southeastern League, for the first time in Regent’s history.

Regent's men’s basketball team reached the LUSL Cup Final for the 2017/ 2018 season, where they narrowly missed out on claiming the title. This was the first Regent’s team to ever progress this far and reach the LUSL cup final match.

Regent's polo teams compete in Winter and Summer SUPA National tournaments. In the 2017/ 2018 Winter Nationals Regent’s had both a beginner and lower intermediate team competing in the tournament. This was the first time Regent’s had two teams entered for the University Nationals Tournament. In partnership with the Federation of International Polo, Regent’s offers two polo scholarships places each year for new and current excelling polo playing students.

Our women’s basketball team is one of the newest teams to join Regent’s Sport for the 2017/2018 season, funded by Sport England. This team was our first female only competitive sports team to have represented Regent’s in LUSL competitions.

Read about Komal’s story 🤸‍♀️🧘‍♀️ 1. Name: Komal Aggarwal

2. Degree and year: MSc Finance
3. Physical Activity/ sport: Zumba + Yoga

4. What activities do you get involved in at Regent’s? (Be Active, Regent’s Sport): Be Active (Zumba + Yoga)

5. Why is female engagement in physical activity important? Mind over body. As women, our bodies are capable of doing so much more than we can even imagine. However, our mind is capable of pushing us further. Exercising helps strengthen both. Physical activity leads to endorphins release which helps us feel and look better.
6. Sum up your reasons and motivations for doing what you do? As a student, I spend a lot of time sitting in class for lectures or sitting in the library to complete assignments. The Be Active program at Regents allows a break from the monotony. Yoga helps me detach and disconnect from all the stresses of my vigorous coursework and allows me to reconnect with my mind, body and soul.

Read about Clara’s story 🎉

1. Name: Clara Forstner
2. Degree and year: Global Management
3. Physical Activity/ sport: Polo
4. What activities do you get involved in at Regent’s? Polo
5. Why is female engagement in physical activity important? Polo is one of the only sports that allows men and women to easily compete against each other. Whereas many other sports are defined by strength and conditioning, in which men normally exceed in, polo is furthermore defined by a good technique and strategic thinking. I believe women are generally extremely good at developing a strategy, planning in advance and overseeing the ‘bigger picture’, which is why polo is definitely a sport for them!
6. Sum up your reasons and motivations for doing what you do? Being part of the Regent’s polo team allows me to not only play the sport I love, be in Nature and challenge myself but is also very rewarding in the sense, that there’re is a very high team spirit. I think that especially women really support each other and push themselves to their best of their abilities, in order to be the best version of yourself.
