The Trustees and Directorate of Regent’s University London are delighted to announce the appointment of Prof. Simon Jarvis as Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC).
The University has an ambitious strategic plan and the DVC, as full deputy to the Vice Chancellor (VC), will play a central role in the achievement of this vision, taking responsibility for the academic management of the University and deputising for the VC in his absence on all matters.
Simon’s strong academic achievements, his experience in the management of quality and in university administration will all be of great value in this new role at Regent’s University London. Elements of the strategic plan include: growth in student numbers, the further development of Regent’s international profile and partnerships, the strengthening of the research profile, gaining Research Degree Awarding Powers (RDAP) and the acquisition of US accreditation for its degrees.
It is expected that Prof. Jarvis will join Regent’s full time on the 1st of January 2015 after completing a number of important projects at his current institution, the University of Greenwich.
Ian Mehrtens, the Chair of the Trustee Board at Regent’s, said: “These are exciting times in higher education nationally and globally. We have sought a DVC who understands Regent’s mission and approach and will continue our development as the leading private, non-state funded, charitable university in the United Kingdom. We believe that Simon has the skills that we need to work with the VC and his team and to maintain our progress.”
Prof. Aldwyn Cooper, the Vice Chancellor and CEO of Regent’s, commented that: “The post of DVC is a most important position. I need somebody who shares our vision, is innovative and committed and on whom I can rely to contribute new thinking at the University and to manage Regent’s when I am absent on other national and international higher education business. We have taken some time to find the right candidate and I believe that Simon will work well here with the team.”
Prof. Simon Jarvis said: “Higher Education worldwide is changing rapidly and there is a growing diversity of quality Higher Education providers in the UK. Regent’s is becoming valued as the model for excellence in the alternative sector. I look forward to joining an energetic and visionary team who are willing and able to deliver first class, relevant programmes, in innovative ways, to the international market.”
