Regent’s University London Interior Design and Communication Design students are working with retailers at the forefront of interior design to support this year’s Marylebone Interiors Day on Saturday 16 May.
The free and open to the public event, steered by The Howard de Walden Estate, will celebrate interior design excellence and will feature work from Regent’s University London’s design students.
Students on the BA (Hons) Interior Design have developed parasitic objects to sit site-specifically outside each participating store. This unique ‘family’ of objects, constructed with wooden pallets and recycled materials, work as a signage system alongside graphics developed by BA (Hons) Communication Design student, Johanna Ojantakanen.
The most obvious highlight from Johanna’s work is her distinctive pink lamp profile, which will be seen in each participating shop-window and on all promotional materials for the event.
Andrew Langford, Communication Design Programme Director at Regent’s University London, explains: “We couldn’t be prouder of our students’ achievements, which place Regent’s firmly at the heart of Marylebone’s creative community.”
Registration for the day takes place at the University’s Marylebone Campus foyer at 110 Marylebone High Street, which works as a hub for the day’s events. Visitors collect their ‘passport’ - a guide to what’s on – and a complimentary canvas bag for stashing catalogues and goodies.
The public will also be welcome to view the Degree Exhibitions currently on display, featuring work from BA (Hons) Communication Design and BA (Hons) Interior Design graduates. Guests can then follow a series of special interior design activities taking place at: The Conran Shop, Designers Guild, McGlashans, Lewis & Co, Little Greene Paint Company, Skandium and Solid Floor.
Regent’s involvement with the day event underlines its continued commitment to developing links with Marylebone Village, local businesses and the surrounding community. Marylebone Interior’s Day is one of a series of live projects that the School of Fashion & Design plan to hold this year, with a forthcoming collaboration with London Zoo in Regent’s Park.
