Professor David Wilson, BA, MA, PhD, FBAM, AcSS
There is many a slip between cup and lip. This famous phrase is more than a simple truism. In terms of strategic decision making, it points to a fundamental truth. Decisions can be creative, innovative, radical or incremental, but if they cannot be put into practice, then all is lost. This dilemma is at the heart of the planning/implementation debates in the strategy literature. In this talk, David Wilson will draw upon a range of data and examples to emphasise the importance of implementation for decision success. He will identify the key factors that are associated with success which range across key organizational features such as governance, culture, structure and intellectual capital. He will end the talk by indicating which of these features seem to have the strongest association with decision success.
David Wilson is a Professor and Head of Department, Sociology, at the University of Warwick. He was previously a Professor in Warwick Business School.
