The Remittances Roundtable is an expert panel focusing on current challenges in remittance markets and remittance patterns around the world.
Remittances constitute a large portion of international money transfers and these flows are vital for many nations around the world. Often very small amounts are sent by migrants to their families and friends left behind. Alongside financial remittances, there are also in kind and non-material remittances which potentially influence development and enhance living standards around the world.
The transaction costs and difficulties in access to banks and other formal channels make informal remittances to play a role in this sector. This coincides with increasingly tightened immigration regulations pushing some movers towards irregularity. The Remittances Roundtable, therefore, focuses on irregularity as a core theme.
The panel led by led by Ibrahim Sirkeci, Ria Financial Professor of Transnational Studies and Marketing, includes leading researchers and practitioners in the field including:
Student assistants involved in the project are Fethiye Kaya Tilbe, Juliana Giraldo Quintero, and Mansi Thakker.
The first meeting is postponed to a later date. The programme will be made available nearer the date. This roundtable is kindly sponsored by Ria Financial.
