The New Ventures Pathway
The New Ventures pathway will give you the foundation needed to transform a new venture from an innovative idea into a fully-fledged, profitable business or product. You’ll learn how to identify key markets and develop strategies to drive your business ideas forward and surpass your competitors.
You will have the platform to test out your ideas, collaborate with peers and mentors, and learn how to solve complex enterprise-related problems.
Using a range of case studies, you will examine different business models – from start-ups to high growth organisations. This knowledge will help you to recognise the practical and ethical dimensions of enterprise, giving you the skills to develop effective solutions.
You will also learn how to determine the managerial and resource priorities that are required to operate efficiently, sustainable and successfully.
This degree will prepare you for your own entrepreneurial journey, whether that’s launching your own start-up or launching a new product within a larger organisation.
This is a full-time programme, comprising two terms of study.
You will take the following core modules:
|Elements of Enterprise||This module combines ideas and concepts from the enterprise field to create a learning environment that allows participants to deconstruct taken-for-granted tools, theories and practices by thinking “out of the box”, to create proactive solutions to contemporary enterprise issues as well as develop the ability to stretch boundaries in an attempt to identify innovative enterprising solutions. By stretching the participants’ thinking, intellectual, creative and innovative skills, it is hoped they will make better enterprise managers and leaders.|
|Marketing and Finance for Enterprise||The module is designed to equip participants with a theoretical and practical insight and competence in the fields of marketing and finance for enterprise. The focus is on developing strategic approaches to marketing and finance that will help achieve competitive advantage, USP and proposition development. Marketing and finance represent key interfaces between an enterprise and its stakeholders and therefore they encompass strong practical dimensions that are inseparable from the conceptual frameworks that underpin them.|
|Research in Practice||An ability to plan, prepare and adapt your ideas and define your strategies to start and successfully run your own enterprise is crucial. This module will draw upon core modules from term 1, ‘Research in Practice’ and ‘Marketing for Entrepreneurs’ and will compliment all subsequent modules in a practical and experiential way. The module will give you an in-depth learning experience in preparing and writing your own business plan, covering the necessary steps and process of business planning, writing and presenting and will aim to equip you with the skills to produce a robust business and financial plan to present to potential investors.|
|Sustainability for Enterprise||This module provides students with an understanding of the increasingly central role of sustainability in enterprise strategy and examines the trajectory of current enterprise practice. The module will embody a critical understanding of the increasing need of the enterprise manager to adapt and leverage sustainability constructs. This module will initially provide participants with a contemporary understanding of the external issues that are driving enterprises to engage with sustainability. This will cover recent ecological and social drivers that are externally impacting businesses around the world and the contemporary moves by stakeholder groups to engage enterprises in embedding the full spectrum of sustainability strategies into their operational models, in particular ‘supply chains’. Theories and case studies around sustainability engagement in support of the earnings imperative will also be critiqued. This will be positioned in the context of the maturity of enterprises in their development and application of sustainability strategies.|
New Ventures Modules
|Challenges in New Ventures||This module introduces the concepts of entrepreneurship and innovation from the perspective of individuals, firms, industries and countries; it describes the challenges individuals and firms face in pursuing entrepreneurship and innovation; it identifies factors associated with success in entrepreneurship and innovation; and it explores the outcomes of entrepreneurship and innovation, including firm growth. These issues are explored in contexts such as new businesses, small- and medium sized enterprises, high growth firms, high-tech firms, and rapidly internationalising firms. The module introduces different perspectives, theories and research underpinning entrepreneurship and innovation.|
|Planning for New Ventures||This module provides a practical guide to the key issues on planning how to realise a business opportunity and can be run either in parallel or as a follow up to the Challenges in New Venture Module. This module goes beyond the traditional ‘How to write a business plan’ manual by offering a flexible, testable and imaginative future-oriented approach (Rae, 2017) to venture planning. Creating a credible and persuasive plan is essential in selling most business concepts to potential investors, partners, customers and suppliers.|
|Enterprise Project||In this module, participants prepare a plan for an enterprise project. This typically consists of a feasibility research section, a start-up plan, and a reflective report that includes individual elements about their experiences. The participants also make a presentation to the supervisor and another member of the academic staff. If agreed with the supervisor, other relevant parties may also be invited to the presentation. This is the programme’s major module and it builds upon what is learnt in the programme overall. It is an opportunity to apply the programme knowledge in a real enterprise environment. Students negotiate the structure of the project with their supervisor and any other external parties involved and are expected to take a high degree of responsibility for their own learning. The learning and teaching strategy builds on the capabilities developed in the whole programme.|
Participants undertake research to produce a dissertation on a topic related to enterprise. This is the final module in the programme and builds upon prior modules to allow the opportunity to apply that knowledge through research into an enterprise topic of interest. Participants are expected to take a high degree of responsibility for their own learning. Participants need to demonstrate their ability to critically evaluate research, demonstrate self-direction in identifying and tackling problems of a complex nature and demonstrate independent thought and evaluation, with the help and guidance of a supervisor. Participants bring together the knowledge and understanding gained through the various modules on the programme to identify an issue, investigate and throw light on that area, drawing in particular on the skills developed in the Research in Practice module in their consideration of the appropriate methodology, and drawing on current research and advanced scholarship in the discipline.
The dissertation allows students to demonstrate that they are able to conduct research that is rigorous and to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
|Business Analytics||Business analytics has become a crucial strategic tool for organisations of all sizes in identifying market trends and patterns and optimising business processes and decision-making. This module is designed to develop the students business-level understanding of the key technologies involved in managing business information needed for decision-making process. This module will equip students with the ability to interpret, conceptualise and convert data into useful information that improves organisations’ performance. This module includes a practical component to develop analytical skills using SAS software, a world leader company in analytics. This software is a graphical interface, menu and wizard-driven tool that empower users to analyse data and publish results. These skills are more vital than ever in large and SMEs organisations and, as such, graduates with an understanding of business analytics are increasingly in-demand in the job market.|
Complexity is one of the salient hallmarks of the 21st century for global managers / leaders. The demands of managing in a complex landscape require knowledge and understanding to promote adaptability, learning and creative problem solving, as well as confidence, which enables the distributed intelligence of the organization / community to flourish.
This complexity arises from operating in multiple geographical markets, engaging in multifunctional activities and dealing with heterogeneity in terms of different businesses, countries (cultures, legislations), and tasks. In other words, global managers / leaders function in many different contexts across cultural geographical and socio-political environments. Hence, they should be prepared to think, act and communicate differently based on a given situation, rapidly accommodating global business challenges. Therefore, complexity is determined by the environment in which global managers / leaders and live. Although naturally different, environments that drive complexity share four common conditions: multiplicity, interdependence, ambiguity, and flux. Coping with the complexity of today’s business environment is not about predicting the future or reducing risk. It is about building the capacity for the global managers / leaders, to adapt continuously and learn speedily, in order to maximize opportunities and at times to survive in an intensely connected and complex world.
|Social Media Marketing Analytics||
Marketing communications play the vital role in supporting and maintaining a brand. This once one-way street then moved to dialogue and has now become multilogue with the exponential growth in Word of mouth (WOM) social media marketing. This module will introduce students to the key concepts of social media marketing.
Students will learn how to understand, critically evaluate and apply conceptual social media frameworks, theories and approaches relevant to their marketing and promotional mix. They will discover how social media networks are used as part of the marketing strategies of a variety of different organisations. They will appreciate and be able to harness the key metrics tools of social media marketing in order to listen, monitor and manage communications through such tools. The module also aims to develop students’ strategic understanding of how to build and manage social media marketing communications campaign which impacts on the identified target audiences and integrates with all other relevant media.
|Technology and Innovation||
Economic growth, increased wealth, higher standards of living, and better quality of life all depend upon productivity increases. And increased productivity is primarily a function of technology and innovation. This course will focus on both the macro aspects – how technology and innovation have contributed to the making of the modern world – and the micro aspects – how technology and innovation influence business. The course will also focus on what factors – social, political, economic, cultural, geographic, and religious – have been conducive to or detrimental to the success of technology and innovation, on both the macro and the micro levels.
There will be special emphasis on the management of technology and innovation, with case studies in different industries and countries used to illustrate and analyse the concepts and ideas covered.
This module will link to Strategy and Decision Making, as the management of innovation, particularly disruptive innovation, is fundamental to a successful corporate strategy – indeed to corporate survival.

If you have not uploaded the relevant supporting documents during the online application process, you should ensure that we have the below supporting documents as soon as you have completed your application. These can be sent to the Regent’s Admissions Department via email to [email protected].
- Copies of academic transcripts and certificates from all university studies (i.e. undergraduate degree)
- One letter of academic recommendation
- A copy of your CV/resumé showing your work experience, if applicable.
- A 1,000 word personal statement outlining the reasons for applying to your chosen programme. This should demonstrate an understanding of a current issue relevant to the subject, how you feel you will benefit from the programme of study, what contributions you will make to the University and how this will help your future career aspirations.
- A copy of your passport photograph (ID) page
- If you are not a native English speaker, proof of your English proficiency
For some of our programmes, the selection process may include an interview. Interviews can take the form of a one-to-one interview or group interview. These are generally conducted on campus but may be conducted by telephone or as a Skype call. Arrangements of these are made between the Admissions Department and the applicant.
Step 2: Receive a response to your application
You can expect to receive a decision on your application within 10 working days of receipt of your completed application and supporting documents.
We will assess whether you meet our entry requirements and will notify you of the decision via email.
Step 3: Accepting your offer
If you wish to accept the offer, please pay the advance tuition fee deposit (non-refundable) to confirm your place.

Closer to the start of the term the Admissions Team will send information regarding the registration process. This will include information on completing your online enrolment prior to your arrival as well as a checklist of documents you will need to bring with you to fully register onto the programme.

What do fees include?
Fees cover the cost of all tuition and access to the University’s IT infrastructure and library learning resources.
What other costs should I budget for?
You will need to budget additional funds for accommodation and living expenses, travel, and any additional trips, visits, activities or courses (such as Summer programmes) that you choose to participate in outside of the tuition offered as part of the programme.
The library hold a limited number of copies of core text books and where possible in e-format. You will be encouraged to purchase your own text books and will need to budget approximately £80-£100 for the year, depending on your programme of study.
When are fees paid?
Fees are payable in the following instalments:
- An initial non-refundable advance deposit paid when you accept your offer of a place
- The advance deposit is allocated against the first term’s fees
- Tuition fees (including fees for subsequent terms) are due two weeks in advance of classes commencing
Additional fee charges
- The programme fee outlined is for the full Masters programme including the dissertation element
- Should there be a requirement to retake modules during an additional term of study or during the dissertation term, there will be an additional charge per module retaken at the rate applicable to that period of study
- The module charge will be calculated on a credit basis for each module, in line with the overall credit weighting of the programme
- Fees for subsequent years of study are subject to fee inflation
- The University aims to keep annual fee increases in line with the University’s cost inflation. The expectation is that this will be no greater than UK consumer price inflation (CPI) plus 3%. There are occasionally variations to this dictated by the costs of running specific programmes or facilities required for our programmes
- All fee increases are subject to approval of the Trustee Board thus ensuring that affordability for our students remains a primary concern in any decisions regarding fee increases

You will also be allocated a personal tutor, who will meet you on a one-to-one basis at various stages throughout the academic year and give you guidance and advice to support your ongoing personal and professional development throughout your studies at Regent’s University London.
The Programme Leader of the MA Enterprise is Dr Zubin Sethna:
Dr Zubin Sethna is a qualified marketing practitioner as well as an entrepreneur. He is the author of the UK and Europe’s most popular text on Consumer Behaviour (SAGE Publications - 4th Edition in 2019). He has successfully launched five businesses (one of which won a UK National Award). Zubin has conducted research in the UK, Europe, India and China, and has raised external funding of nearly £550k for various academic projects. He is Co-Chair of the Academy of Marketing's Special Interest Group on 'Entrepreneurial and Small Business Marketing' and has been invited to conduct keynote lectures at HE institutions in the UK, EU, China and India. Dr Sethna is the Editor-in-Chief of the prestigious Journal of Research in Marketing and Entrepreneurship, and regularly reviews for a variety of other marketing and entrepreneurship journals.

Minimum entry requirements for Level 7 students
One of the following qualifications:
- Minimum second class UK undergraduate degree
- Equivalent international qualifications as deemed acceptable by the University
- Exceptional entry will be assessed on case by case basis by academic referral only based on:
- An undergraduate degree lower than 2:2 plus one year of relevant work experience
- No undergraduate degree but three years of relevant work experience
We also welcome applications from candidates who do not meet the essential entry criteria outlined above. In order to be accepted for exceptional entry, you must:
- Hold a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience
- Provide a 1000-word personal statement outlining your reasons for applying, and how your previous experience is of relevance to the programme you are applying for
- Be prepared to attend an interview with the Postgraduate Admissions Panel
English Language Requirements
- IELTS: Overall score of 6.5, with 6.0 or above in all 4 component parts
- PTE Academic: Overall score of 58, with 51 or above in each individual component
- A-level/GCSE/IGCSE English: grade C / 4 or above (for IGCSE certificates, please provide the Supplementary Certifying Statement with the breakdown of component grades)
- International Baccalaureate: Grade 5 in English at Higher or Standard Level
