After graduating he moved to the United States, where he was an au pair in Washington DC for one year, taking care of three young boys. Upon returning to the United Kingdom, he worked as an administrator in an office, before applying to become a teacher.

He attended the University of East Anglia and graduated with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Instead of teaching in a primary school, David embarked on a career in EFL and took up his first teaching post in the Black Forest, teaching English to adults and business people in Villingen-Schwenningen. After one year, David returned to the United Kingdom and worked as an administrator for TFL before deciding to return to EFL teaching and went to Japan, where he worked in a conversation school in Kobe, teaching young learners and adults.

After three years, David returned to the United Kingdom and was employed full time in the civil service, before leaving to work in a recruitment agency. In 2005, he realised that EFL was his true vocation and enrolled on a CELTA course to become a fully qualified EFL teacher. He was offered a job at a summer school in Ascot and returned every summer for the following six years in different roles. He started out as a teacher and progressed to Assistant Centre Manager, Centre Manager, Assistant Director of Studies, Registrar and Director of Studies. In between summer schools, David also had the opportunity to work on short-term contracts at winter schools in South Korea and for winter schools in Austria. In 2011 he taught at both summer and adult schools for LaL in London and remained at the adult school for one year.

In 2014, David took up a full-time teaching position in Yokohama, Japan, where he progressed from English Instructor to Assistant Senior On-Site Instructor, helping to manage a team of 19 teachers.
