Dr Afroditi Koulaxi

Dr Afroditi Koulaxi is a Lecturer in Interdisciplinary Learning at Regent’s University London and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). Her teaching and research lie at the intersection of media and communications, sociology, and urban studies, with a particular interest in bringing different disciplinary perspectives together to explore contemporary social issues.

Before joining Regent’s, Afroditi was an LSE Fellow in Interdisciplinary Social Science at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Guest Teacher in LSE’s Department of Media and Communications. She continues her work at LSE as a Supervisor for the Laidlaw Scholars Leadership and Research Programme, supporting interdisciplinary undergraduate research. She has also taught at King’s College London and Goldsmiths, University of London.

Afroditi holds a PhD in Media and Communications and an MSc in Media and Communications (Governance) from LSE, and a BA in Politics and International Relations from the University of Kent. Her doctoral research, funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), explored the intersections of migration, media, identity, and urban life in Athens and formed the basis of her monograph, Citizenship in Crisis in Athens: Migration, Media and Identity, published by Routledge in 2025.

Her current research projects explore climate-driven internal displacement following Storm Daniel in Greece, as well as the mediation of femicide and hierarchies of victimhood across mainstream and social media.
