A message from our student, Chimeuma Darlington Beke
Thank you for taking the time to participate in my survey. I am a current doctoral student of the University researching a thesis on Student Mobility for Higher Education: the case of Nigeria. This topic is about why Nigerian students choose to study abroad for their tertiary education and what they do afterwards. Many African and Asian students have traditionally studied at universities and other higher education institutions outside their home countries. This trend has persisted in recent years. During this pandemic we may not see any significant decrease in student mobility. In fact, with fewer job opportunities in many economies, we may see African and Asian students continuing to study abroad during the pandemic.
I am particularly interested in why Nigerian and other African students study abroad. Nigeria is a wealthy African economy with established universities. Yet many Nigerian students continue to study abroad. Against this background, I would like to explore why students from Nigeria and elsewhere in Africa specifically choose the UK as their study destination. I also want to research why international students choose to remain in the UK after their studies.

Your data and privacy
I plan to collect data via an online questionnaire. My questionnaire aims to gain general knowledge of why students choose UK for their higher education and the reasons for their decision to remain in or leave the UK after their studies. Your participation in this survey is voluntary, and all your responses will be kept confidential. The survey requires a unique access code (2222) to participate in this survey. This access code also enables your data to be completely removed from my database at any time if you wish to withdraw from my project. The unique access code ensures that no one but me has access to the survey and all information you provide.
All data collected from this questionnaire will be strictly confidential and will be stored securely by Regents University London. Regent’s upholds all aspects of the UK Data Protection Act and follows standards of UK higher education with regard to research and the wellbeing of participants in research projects. All participants will keep their right to withdraw from my research. Participants will also have the right not to answer any questions they deem not applicable to them, or which they feel may be inappropriate. You are guaranteed anonymity and confidentially at all times. Your personal data will never be revealed at any time, and I will be the only person to contact you. I may contact you for a follow-up interview. If you agree, I would be happy to invite you at a later date to any presentation that I give of my research findings.
