Celebrating Regent’s 2024 Learning, Teaching, Research and Scholarship conference

Shining a spotlight on Research in Action at the University, co-leads for research at Regent's University London, Professor Joanne Lusher and Professor Tom Villis, share their experience of the recent 2024 Learning, Teaching, Research and Scholarship (LTRS) conference.

An annual event which provides academic colleagues from across the University with an occasion to come together, explore ideas and learn more about each other’s work, the LTRS conference showcases and celebrates research in action at Regent’s, as well as the impact it has on academic staff and students alike.

On Tuesday 10 September 2024, Regent’s academic community joined together for the annual Learning, Teaching, Research and Scholarship (LTRS) conference, held on campus.

The theme of this year’s conference was ‘identities’, something that proved to be a rich subject for discussion and in turn provoked lots of interesting papers and stimulating debates.

As has become a tradition at the LTRS conference, the keynote speeches were delivered by students, reminding everyone present of how inspiring teaching leads to a positive impact on the world. There were numerous parallel sessions and workshops on a wide range of topics, from EDI and the ways in which students wrestle with different identities, to questioning the new curriculum and unpicking the various interactions between identity and professional practice. There were also opportunities to experience language lessons and to try zine making, as academics explored each other's disciplines and areas of specialism.

The Knapp Gallery and other spaces on campus were packed with examples of scholarly work created by members of the Regent’s community, including amazing contributions from film and screen and examples of the research going on in Counselling Psychology.

At the end of the day, we also celebrated those staff who had been recognised as fellows, senior fellows and principal fellows of Advance HE.

It was a truly inspiring day packed with thought-provoking insights and fostering a strong sense of community amongst academics. It was fantastic to hear this being echoed by colleagues who attended in their feedback:

‘It was such an enjoyable and insightful day, providing the opportunity to connect with colleagues I don’t usually get the chance to interact with, while gaining a deeper understanding of the diverse teaching approaches across the university’ - Regent’s academic.

We very much look forward to having another opportunity to showcase the breadth of research activity at Regent’s University London before the start of the next academic year.
