Module subject to validation
This module will introduce you to the key differences between writing for the stage and writing for the screen by requiring you to work on a short script in each discipline. You will be developing an original idea and then adapting it twice, once for the screen and once for the stage. Each adaptation will throw up restrictions and possibilities. As you address your story twice you will consider audience, arena, technical issues and budgetary constraints.
Through the script development process, you will learn appropriate skills in crafting, developing and rewriting in order to realise two viable, producible and professional short scripts; one for the screen, one for the stage. Skills will include deployment of narrative structure, plotting, relevant use of characterisation, use of arena and an understanding of the relevance of genre and form.
