Dr Nadja Stamselberg

Lecturer in Art History and Cultural Studies

Professional Biography

Dr Nadja Stamselberg received her PhD in Cultural Studies from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2008. She has held academic appointments at Kingston University and Queen Mary University of London, and since 2012 has served as Lecturer in Cultural Studies at Regent’s University London. She also guest lectures at City, University of London, and has taught at the London campus of Syracuse University, New York.

Dr Stamselberg’s research is situated at the intersection of cultural theory, migration studies, and visual culture, with a particular focus on the politics of borders, identity, and representation. She is the co-editor of Breaching Borders: Art, Migrants and the Metaphor of Waste (I.B. Tauris, 2014), a volume featuring contributions from leading scholars including Zygmunt Bauman, Sandro Mezzadra, and Nikos Papastergiadis. The publication critically interrogates dominant cultural narratives surrounding migration and displacement through an interdisciplinary lens. Her subsequent article, On the Right Side – Borders of Belonging (Skepsi, University of Kent, Vol. 9, 2018), further develops this inquiry, examining the construction of cultural and political belonging.

Alongside her academic research, Dr Stamselberg maintains an active artistic practice. Her work explores the space between perception and knowledge, investigating the tensions between visibility and meaning. Since October 2023, she has worked as Curator of the Knapp Gallery at Regent’s University London, where she leads a dynamic exhibition programme featuring the work of students, staff, and invited artists.
