This term, we proudly celebrated 70 Regent’s students who earned the Regent’s Certificate of Language Achievement – our highest number of recipients to date.
These certificates recognise the sustained commitment and progress of students who have studied a language alongside their degree for several terms. Among this year’s recipients are many who took their first steps in their language journey here at Regent’s, as well as others who built on prior knowledge and reached new levels of fluency. Regardless of their starting point, every student has demonstrated determination, growth, and a willingness to challenge themselves.
Reaching this milestone is about far more than mastering vocabulary or grammar. Regent’s language learners are developing the ability to listen deeply, adapt confidently, and connect across cultures. These are powerful, future-ready skills – the kind that set individuals apart in a rapidly evolving global workplace.
As they move forward, being one of our award-recipients signals to future employers, collaborators, and communities that they bring something uniquely human to the table: cultural intelligence, empathy, and the ability to build genuine understanding – qualities no algorithm can truly replicate.
Amparo Lallana, Director of Programmes – Languages, shared this message with students:
‘Learning another language equips you with a superpower – a new way to think, feel, and connect with others. It strengthens your mind, builds resilience, and deepens self-awareness. Professionally, it is a powerful advantage that can expand your opportunities and connect you to international audiences, enabling you to act as a bridge across cultures.
In a world increasingly shaped by AI, multilingual skills are more important than ever. While technology can translate words instantly, it cannot interpret nuance, culture, or build trust. Multilingual individuals like you are invaluable – essential in bridging the gap between technological precision and human meaning.’
At Regent’s, all undergraduate students, and most postgraduates, have the opportunity to study a language at any stage of their degree. Whether starting from scratch or continuing their learning journey, students can choose from Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Russian, or Spanish, gaining skills that will enrich both their personal and professional lives.
