On Thursday 9 July, Regent’s Psychotherapy and Psychology Research & Scholarship Symposium brought together academic staff, researchers and practitioners for a celebration of scholarship, innovation and interdisciplinary work. The event highlighted the breadth and depth of research taking place across Regent’s School of Psychotherapy and Psychology, while creating opportunities to share ideas, foster new collaborations and strengthen the School's growing research and scholarship culture.
Celebrating diverse research topics with real-world impact
The symposium showcased a diverse programme of presentations spanning mental health, organisational psychology, psychotherapy, wellbeing, language, digital technologies, and professional practice. Speakers shared emerging findings, methodological innovations and reflections on translating research into meaningful real-world impact, demonstrating how psychological and psychotherapeutic research can inform practice and enhance individual and community wellbeing.
From published research to early-stage ideas
The symposium also provided an important platform for colleagues to share work at different stages of development. Alongside completed projects and published research, attendees explored early-stage ideas, methodological challenges and future research directions. This open exchange fostered constructive dialogue, critical reflection and opportunities for future collaboration across programmes and research interests.
Building an inclusive and supportive research community
Beyond celebrating current achievements, the event reinforced the School's commitment to developing a thriving research environment, as participants discussed ways to strengthen research capacity and support scholarly development for staff and students. The symposium reflected a shared ambition to continue building and evolving an inclusive and supportive research community in which scholarship is embedded across teaching, practice and professional development at Regent’s. These conversations reinforced the value of creating regular spaces where ideas can be shared, partnerships developed and new research initiatives nurtured.
Reflecting on the success of the symposium, Professor Maria Kordowicz, Director of Psychology and Research Programmes, commented:
‘Research flourishes when people come together to share ideas, challenge assumptions and learn from one another. This symposium demonstrated not only the exceptional quality of scholarship across Psychotherapy and Psychology, but also the generosity, curiosity and collaborative spirit of our academic community. By creating opportunities to connect research with teaching, practice and societal impact, we continue to strengthen our collective contribution both within the University and beyond.’
Professor Oliver Robison, Head of School of Psychotherapy and Psychology, reflected:
‘The range and depth of research shared at the symposium was truly inspiring. A common thread through all the talks was how to use theory, research and practice to help individuals thrive in complex and challenging circumstances. The School of Psychotherapy and Psychology, which boasts a diverse mix of researchers and practitioners, is ideally placed to continue this important line of work and I’m excited to see it evolve.’
An annual opportunity to celebrate, inspire and reinforce research culture
The Psychotherapy and Psychology Research & Scholarship Symposium represents an important milestone in the School's continuing commitment to research excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration and societal impact. As research activity continues to grow, the symposium will provide an annual opportunity to celebrate achievements, inspire new ideas and reinforce a culture of curiosity, innovation and evidence-informed practice that benefits students, staff, practitioners and the wider community alike.
