The History of London

SAI505 – discover more

Explore the history of London, from the time of its foundation in the first century AD to the end of the Second World War. You'll learn the chronology of London (from Roman to medieval, and early modern to the twentieth century) and experience the diversity of historical evidence, like buildings, artefacts, images and documents. You'll cover themes such as religion, entertainment, housing, industrialisation, disease and war, and look at the varied experience of ordinary Londoners. The module incorporates a number of field trips, including walking tours and visits to various historic buildings.

Experiencing Theatre

SAI506 – discover more

Go behind the scenes of London theatre, learn the mechanism of staging productions (from Shakespeare to musical theatre) and start to appreciate the complexity of collaborative projects and the teamwork that realises them. Classroom activities will give you a taste of the discipline, demands and skills that shape a performance while practical studio sessions offer an insight into how plays are staged and performed – and the roles of directors, designers and actors.
