What to expect

We live in a world driven by data, AI and machine learning. During your time at Regent's, you’ll learn and apply technical data science skills in business contexts.
You’ll learn how to code, programme and process large, complex data sets with professional algorithms – mastering data analysis, trend identification, problem solving and effective communication.

Using analytical tools like Python, R, Excel VBA and Power BI, you’ll also develop the skills to interpret, conceptualise and convert that data into valuable consumer insights – identifying market trends and patterns, and using them to drive business strategy and decision-making. From this, you’ll devise powerful solutions that can increase sales, enhance customer experiences and develop new products that meet consumer needs.

Getting you business-ready is our priority. You'll join bootcamps and masterclasses to learn to think like a leader and changemaker, and work on live briefs that are commissioned and evaluated by real companies looking for new projects, ideas and talent.

In your final term, you’ll delve into customer and artificial intelligence, taking on either a professional placement, consultancy project or dissertation – enabling you to network with and work alongside big industry players.

How to apply

Applying to Regent's is quick and easy. We accept direct applications year-round and there's no application fee. If you haven't received your exam results, you can still apply and we'll issue you with a conditional offer. You just need be clear in your application which qualifications you're currently studying for.

Step 1: Apply

During the application process, you'll have the chance to upload supporting documents, including:

  • A copy of your passport (photograph ID page)
  • Academic transcripts and certificates from all previous studies
  • A 500-700 word personal statement (view guidance)
  • If you're not a native English speaker, proof of your English proficiency

Credit transfer

If you’ve already studied part of your degree elsewhere, you may be able to apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and join your new course at an advanced entry point. To apply for RPL, you'll need to state this clearly in your application and provide us with the certificates, transcripts and module descriptions for your previous course.

Step 2: Receive a response

You can expect to receive a decision on your application within 10 working days. We'll assess whether you meet our entry requirements and will notify you of our decision via email. UCAS applicants will also receive official notification via the UCAS system.

For some of our courses, the selection process may include an interview or audition. They can take the form of a one-to-one interview, a group interview or a portfolio review, which may be conducted by telephone or online. Arrangements of these are made between you and the Admissions department.

Step 3: Accept your offer

If you wish to accept your offer, you must pay your (non-refundable) advance tuition fee deposit. This will confirm your place. Here's how.

Step 4: Register 

Closer to the start of term, our Admissions team will send instructions regarding your registration process. This will include information on completing your online enrolment before you arrive, as well as a checklist of documents you'll need to bring with you to campus.

Is a Masters in Data Science worth it?

Yes, a Masters in Data Science is worth it as it will prepare you for success in whichever direct you choose to go; be it your own business, working with NGOs, social enterprises, international organisations or government agencies.

What can you do with a Data Science degree?

A Masters in Data Science will have the skills and tools in using data to create powerful solutions that increase business sales, enhance customer experiences and develop new products that meet consumer needs. The holder of a Masters in Data Science will combine expertise in business analytics, consumer intelligence and marketing analytics. 

How much does a Data Scientist make?

A starting salary of £40,000 –£60,000.

When do I need to pay?

If you receive an offer for a course, you’ll receive a pro forma invoice. To accept your offer and secure your place, pay your deposit payment as soon as possible.

The remaining portion of your first year’s tuition fees will be due when you enrol. At this time, you’ll receive your invoice for the full year. You can choose to pay for the year in full before the start of your first academic year or in two instalments, spread out across the academic year. The dates of these instalments will be determined by when your course starts.

What do fees include?

Fees cover the cost of all tuition and access to the University’s IT infrastructure and library learning resources. Fees are presented for the first level of study which equates to two terms.

What other costs should I budget for?

You will need to budget additional funds for accommodation and living expenses, travel, and any additional trips, visits, activities or courses that you choose to participate in outside of the tuition offered as part of your course.

The library holds a limited number of copies of core textbooks and where possible in e-format. You will be encouraged to purchase your own textbooks and will need to budget approximately £80-£100 per year, depending on your course.

Contact hours

You’ll have 14 hours per week of timetabled teaching. Outside your classes, you'll work on assignments both independently and collaboratively with classmates. This involves further reading, research and reflection, as well as preparation for workshops and assessments.

Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning

We also welcome applications from students who don't meet our usual entry requirements. To be accepted for exceptional entry, you must:

  • Have three years of work experience if you don't hold a degree

MSc Data Science in Business

Term 1

Module title
Business Analytics Business analytics has become a crucial strategic tool for organisations of all sizes in identifying market trends and patterns and optimising business processes and decision making. This module is designed to develop your business-level understanding of key technologies involved in managing business information needed for decision making. This module will equip you with the ability to interpret, conceptualise and convert data into useful information that improves organisations’ performance. It will include a practical component to develop analytical skills using SAS software, a world leader company in analytics. It is a graphical interface, menu and wizard driven tool that empower users to analyse data and publish results.
Consumer Intelligence You will learn core theories and concepts of consumer behaviour and examine the way digital technology is influencing how consumers behave. Additionally, the module provides an overview of the digital landscape and the role of key technologies such as cloud computing, social media, mobile and analytics to better capture and analyse customer data how analytics techniques can help them to understand not only how customers have behaved in the past but also to make accurate predictions about how consumers will behave in the future, which can then be used to optimise marketing messages, product choices and other elements of the marketing mix.
Data Visualisation and Storytelling In this module, you will learn about the concepts and techniques behind visualising data and storytelling; thus how to tell better stories with data that are meaningful to businesses. You will examine technologies like the internet of things, augmented reality, social virtual reality, and artificial intelligence, as well foresight methodologies. You will become proficient in ethically obtaining, preparing, and visualising data from various sources. The module will provide you with a solid grounding in a selection of Industry standard tools used in the exploration and visualisation of data in all forms, to improve their communication skills with Data Visualization and Storytelling techniques.
Tools for Data Analysis Sophisticated analytics tools are needed to visualize and analyse today's increasing quantities of Big Data. This module will provide you with a general understanding of current tools and applications of data analytics in marketing, finance and management contexts.
You will be introduced to a range of analytical tools and an overview of tools in the field such as (but not limited to): Python, R, Excel/VBA and Power BI Excel functionality. You are not expected to have any familiarity with any of the topics above, as the module will develop an understanding of these from scratch.

Term 2

Module title
Coding You will learn about general programming/coding techniques such as variables, functions and control flow. The module will show you how to work with different types of data structures such as arrays and dictionaries and develop data processing pipelines which allow you to convert raw data into data that you can analyse. You will apply mathematical and statistical procedures to data and learn how to plot graphs of various types. You will also become familiar with an industry standard data science programming environment.
Data Analytics This module is designed to provide you with an in-depth understanding of digital marketing statistical techniques via the use of latest analytics software packages. You will be introduced to the core analytical concepts of “big” data analysis. This module takes you from rudimentary data management techniques to descriptive visualisation to inferential and predictive analytics. You will learn how digital marketers use data to inform decision making, target customers, and analyse consumer behaviours. Successful students will receive joint SAS/Regents Certification in Data Analytics
Machine Learning and AI for Business This module introduces the fundamental concepts, techniques and principles of machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) as used in business. It aims to give a broad introduction to the rapidly-developing field of machine learning (Machine Learning is about extracting useful information from large and complex datasets) and Artificial Intelligence. You will learn the theoretical basis of how learning algorithms are derived and when/how they are optimally applied in business situations.

Term 3

Module title
Optional Capstone Module For your capstone module, you have the option of either the Capstone Consultancy Project or the Capstone Dissertation. Please see below for further details.
Professional Placement This module will focus on addressing professional practice skills in data visualisation and storytelling and preparing you as a future leader in your profession. The module includes professional practice hours that you must complete during Term 3. At the end of this module you will have obtained a realistic and comprehensive understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the scientist-practitioner model in practice and will have an opportunity to discuss and critically reflect upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities associated with the professional evidence-based practice of data visualisation and storytelling.

Term 3 Optional Capstone Modules

Module title
Capstone Consultancy Project In this module you operate in effect as a trainee management consultant for your client, and are expected to undertake research into an issue related to digital marketing and analytics, and to develop conclusions and recommendations that are intended to benefit the client organisation and perhaps, the sector as a whole. The project focuses on the rapid collection and assimilation of data, to gain a detailed understanding of organisations’ needs and their issues. You will be expected to interact with the organisation as if it were a real commercial relationship which will include recording activities and reporting to the client.
Capstone Dissertation You need to demonstrate your ability to critically evaluate research and demonstrate self-direction in identifying and tackling problems of a complex nature. The dissertation gives you the opportunity to demonstrate independent thought and evaluation, yet with the help and under the guidance of a supervisor. You will choose a topic that may be related to your career aspirations and bring together the knowledge and understanding gained through the various modules on the programme to identify a problem, investigate and throw light on their chosen topic. The main aims of this module are to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your abilities to formulate your own research question in your chosen area, to gather and select material to answer your question through critical analysis and evaluation of your material, and to communicate your findings by presenting a coherent argument in an appropriate academic style.
