Internationalism, innovation, creativity, leadership, and employability are the key themes of this programme. You will develop a broad base of core business, management, intercultural and language skills which will equip you as a leader, strategist and decision-maker of the future.
Language and intercultural intelligence are a very important features of the degree. You will study a foreign language and spend two terms at one of our many partner institutions around the world.
In addition, significant periods of work experience during your studies will challenge you to test your learning in a variety of real-world business and cultural settings.
This is a full-time programme. It takes 4 years to complete if you start in September or 3.5 years if you start in January. It includes one year of study abroad.
If you begin the programme in January, you will complete your second term in the summer (May to August). This enables you to begin your second year in September and complete your degree in 3.5 years. You will study for the same number of terms as students starting in September, but over a shorter period of time.
Subsequent years of study will follow a standard academic year format of autumn and spring terms.
The design of the programme enables you to develop a full knowledge and understanding of business and management, to acquire the relevant language and cultural skills, to choose subject areas of interest from a wide range of options, to take advantage of studying and working in more than one ‘foreign’ country and to experience the real world through work placements.
You will be able to choose one core target language from Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. Languages are taught with a marked focus on professional communication skills, which prepares you to succeed in your SPA and beyond.
You can either study a language as complete beginner or choose a language that you already speak and be accepted up to an intermediate level of competence in the language. You must not have an A-level equivalent award issued by the country of the target language (e.g. a student cannot take French if they have a French Baccalauréat). The level will be ascertained in a diagnostic test on enrolment.
You can also choose to study a second foreign language as an elective.

Study Period Abroad (SPA)
You will study abroad in Term 5 and 6*, spending time in one (or two) countries to gain life-changing international experience. Your target language choice will determine which partner institution/s is/are available for you. You may replace one of your SPA terms in an English speaking country, e.g. USA or Australia, subject to the competency of target language and the approval of SPA Academic Advisor. At least one of your SPA terms must be in the target language of your degree.
We have partnerships with over a hundred around the world. This provides students with the opportunity to strengthen intercultural understanding, gain exposure to a more varied selection of academic modes, as well as significantly driving up their language skills. The University’s International Partnerships Office will support you before, during and after your SPA.

Placement Learning Project (PLP)
This is an optional replacement for the second SPA in Term 6. The Placement Learning Project is a 4 to 5 month (16 week minimum) module which aims to formally and academically utilise the student’s theoretical business knowledge in a real-life industry environment. The module is formed of these three elements:
- a 16 week placement in an internship setting
- a formal and concurrent structure of academic submissions
- a supervisory tutor/student relationship
Work placements are an integral part of the programme and you are required to undertake two 8-week blocks of work placements before the final year of study, in order to gain valuable industry experience, and also to provide a source of reflection and investigation for your final-year capstone module – Applied Business Project.
The work placements provide practical enrichment of your learning, allowing you to test your knowledge in a variety of real-world business and cultural settings. Such experience is highly valued by potential employers and will significantly enhance your career prospects and employability after graduation.

|Academic Environment||10 credits||This module is designed to equip the student with the key skills and knowledge necessary to perform effectively in the academic environment. The module will aim to enable students to be resourceful in data collection, by using a variety of source types to compare and synthesise information, including databases and social media. Students will learn how to acknowledge the origin of their data responsibly and present information in a clear and succinct way.|
|Accounting and Finance||20 credits||This module provides you with a fundamental understanding of accounting information systems, with particular reference to external and internal reporting, the nature and implications of costs in business decision-making; and an understanding of the principles of financial management that will enable you to make standard investment and financial decisions both in the long- and short-term.|
|Analytical Tools and Techniques for Business||20 credits||
This module consists of two parts: business mathematics and statistics. The first will provide you with an understanding of linear and non-linear functions, solutions to systems of linear equations, of linear programming and the introductory concepts of mathematics of finance.
In the second part, you will learn basic statistical methods from descriptive statistics to introductory concepts of statistical inference. Leaners also use mathematical and statistical functions in Excel.
|Business Economics||10 credits||This module will introduce you to the key concepts and theoretical models of market behaviour. This module is expected to equip you with the necessary tools to develop a good understanding of both the microeconomic and macroeconomic environment in which a business operates.|
|Global Perspectives||10 credits||This is a University-wide common module, which facilitates interpersonal, intercultural and cross-disciplinary learning for all level 4 students enrolled on Regent’s validated degree programmes. The module introduces a range of ideas and ways of thinking based around the University’s values, reflected in its learning outcomes. It encourages students to interact with the broader University community, both socially and academically, asking them to cross the physical and intellectual borders of their degree programmes. Global Perspectives aims to increase self-awareness and prepares students for their subsequent studies by familiarising them with the resources available to meet their lifelong learning needs.|
|Language Module (1st term) - Getting started in German||10 credits||This module is those of you with little or no previous knowledge of the target language. It will enable you to use both receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) skills in the target language for everyday routine exchanges in familiar contexts in countries where the target language is spoken, and to develop a limited knowledge and understanding of grammatical and lexical structures of the target language. You will also gain basic factual knowledge of general aspects of the countries where the target language is spoken.|
|Language Module (2nd term) - Living in a German speaking country||10 credits||This module is for students with a basic knowledge of the target language and builds on the skills developed in stage 1. It will enable you to use both receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) skills in the target language for simple predictable exchanges in social and work situations, both formal and informal, in countries where the target language is spoken, and to develop some general knowledge and understanding of grammatical and lexical structures of the target language. You will also expand their knowledge of specific aspects of the societies and cultures in the countries where the target language is spoken and will acquaint themselves with year abroad destinations.|
|People and Organisations||20 credits||This module aims to provide a base knowledge of the key issues associated with people in organisations. The rationale of this module is to not only provide you with the key concepts and theoretical knowledge programmes but also to provide exposure to wider academic skills and analytical tools. The module also aims to help you to identify the challenges which confront management and introduces management models used for the effective analysis and evaluation of those challenges. This module will provide the basis for evaluating the competing perspectives on what determines and influences the behaviour of people and how to manage people effectively and efficiently in contemporary organisations. You will be provided with the analytical tools to creatively understand and solve organisational and people issues.|

|International Business||20 credits||The purpose of this module is to foster students with an international perspective on the challenges facing business managers. The objectives of this module are to: • Gain a realistic perception of the cognitive framework that you will need to apply in international business interactions. This will support the programme theme of intercultural intelligence. • Analyse factors defining framework within which international business take place • Differentiate between domestic and cross-border business logics • Identify different ways companies seek to gain international competitive advantage • Raise awareness of how international business might evolve in the years to come.|
|Introduction to Business Law||10 credits||The module aims to enable the student to understand the fundamental principles of law relating to business transactions and commercial entities, as well as being aware of consumer rights. The module will introduce you to the law relating to business and management transactions and the legal implications of conducting different types of business activity. You will examine the principal legal concepts which engage in contract, tort and consumer protection. Further consideration will be given as to how business law engages with entrepreneurship and stewardship, as well as its role in ethics, sustainability and responsibility. You will gain an understanding of the sources and characteristics of English law, you will also examine international law, human rights and the law of the European Union. Comparative jurisdictional differences will be explored within the context of entrepreneurship.|
|Language Module (1st term) – Talking Business in German||10 credits||This module is for you with a survival knowledge of the target language and builds on the skills developed in stage 2. It will enable you to use both receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) skills in the target language for dealing simply and directly with most situations likely to arise in social and academic work situations in contexts where the target language is spoken, and to develop good knowledge and understanding of grammatical and lexical structures of the target language, including general business lexis. Besides consolidating students’ communicative competence, the module will provide: • Knowledge and general understanding of social, cultural and educational features of the countries where the target language is spoken with a specific focus on life in year abroad destinations and; • Awareness of recent economic and social developments in those countries.|
|Language Module (2nd term) – Going Abroad in a German speaking country||10 credits||This module provides you with an operational knowledge of the target language and builds on the skills developed in stage 3. It enables you to use both receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) skills in the target language for dealing operationally with unpredictable situations in social, academic and work situations in countries where the target language is spoken, and to develop very good knowledge and understanding of some complex grammatical and lexical structures of the target language, including discipline-specific business lexis. Besides consolidating your communicative competence for life and study in countries where the target language is spoken, the module will: • Prepare you for the year abroad with a particular focus on their destination city or region; • Provide an understanding of aspects of the business environments in the countries where the target language is spoken and raise awareness of economic trends, political and ethical developments in the context of business and the wider society in those countries.|
|Marketing Principles||20 credits||This module aims to give you a good understanding of the key principles and core concepts of marketing in order to effectively apply marketing theory to different business and marketing scenarios in a national and global context. It will also give you the ability to develop successful and creative integrated marketing projects. This module also aims to provide a good understanding of specific subjects related to marketing such as branding, marketing communications, strategic segmentation, targeting and positioning. It will provide you with a solid understanding of how marketing contributes to the success of any organisation and will provide a robust theoretical and practical knowledge in marketing. In addition, this module intends to make you aware of how digital technology, social media, events and experiential marketing are changing the nature of business.|

|Sustainability||20 credits||This module is the main introduction to broader concepts around stewardship for the programme. It aims to raise awareness and appreciation of the historic, contemporary and long term drivers and challenges impacting on the economy, society and the environment, and how business and societies respond to the various factors that affect them. The module will introduce you to a range of Sustainability concepts/ models and frameworks that relate to business practice, and will also provide you with a futures focus. Being able to identify opportunities and risks towards finding sustainable solutions is crucial for enterprises to develop successfully, be it locally, globally and by sector.|

The module is the capstone and culmination module of the BA (Hons) International Business degree programme. It is designed to simulate and reflect a realistic business situation, giving students the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to apply and synthesise the knowledge and skills acquired through the taught elements of the course, as well as the work placement experience.
The module aims to bring together all the taught elements of the programme to reinforce their interrelationship and to provide an experience which enables students to move forward from the understanding of a discrete knowledge based to synthesising and exploring new areas of applied research study. The process of ABP will require students to identify and examine a Problem of Practice (POP), which is an area of concern for the organisation that students have previously observed through the work placements completed by students. The POP can be a tactical or strategic issue related to financial, sales, marketing, human resource, intercultural challenges, corporate social responsibility, and/or sustainable practices facing the organisation. The ABP topic will be derived from students’ identified POP, and the goal is to use creative problem solving skills to provide the organisation with possible solutions or recommendations. This module will furthermore help students’ transition into the professional work environment upon graduation.
|Language Module (1st term) - German for Professionals||10 credits||This module is for you those of you returning from the year abroad; it builds on the language skills and knowledge acquired through study or work in countries where the target language is spoken and aims to prepare students for different labour markets and cultural ways of working. Thus, besides enabling you to maintain and further develop a high degree of fluency and communicative competence in the target language both orally and in writing, it has a specific focus on the world of work and the language used for professional purposes with special attention on employability skills. The module will: • Enhance your employability in target language settings by focusing on workplace skills and business practices current in countries where the target language is spoken. • Assist you to collaboratively build knowledge of the world of work in general and in particular in countries where the target language is spoken. • Consolidate your knowledge of the language and cultural understanding of societies gained through living, studying or working in countries where the target language is spoken, and facilitate reflection on the residence abroad experience as a tool for personal and professional development. • Foster the ability to analyse, assimilate and handle complex information in the target language to evaluate facts for business purposes and develop critical judgement.|

It will enable you to maintain and further develop a high degree of fluency and communicative competence in the target language both orally and in writing and to collaboratively build knowledge from experiences of interacting in social, academic and professional environments in countries where the target language is spoken. Besides further enhancing your communicative competence the module will: • Consolidate your knowledge of the language and society gained through living, studying or working in countries where the target language is spoken. • Foster in-depth knowledge and critical understanding of contemporary economic, sociopolitical topics and business realities in countries where the target language is spoken providing insights into the significance of those countries in today’s globalised arena and foster the ability to analyse complex authentic texts from journalistic and academic sources in the target language, to evaluate information and develop critical judgement.|
|Leading with Intercultural Intelligence||10 credits||This module invites aims to develop student’s leadership skills and cultural intelligence. Cultural intelligence and intercultural competence have been identified as key skills for the development of future global leaders and the recruitment of young graduates. Cultural intelligence (CQ) is a critical capability for effective leadership in our multicultural, global world. The module outcomes are to: • Demonstrate a high level of cultural intelligence (CQ); • Develop resilience and the capacity to lead across cultures; • Analyse complexity and develop agility to adapt to the dynamics of culture in a globalised world; • Enhance the capacity to develop others, lead and manage effectively relationships in international context, either at distance or face-to-face.|

|Planning a New Venture||10 credits||This module is devised to help students study key aspects of forming a new venture and assess opportunities for value creation. It introduces students to the main issues that need to be considered when planning a new business venture and how to make more informed decisions and judgements. The journey covers concept development, through research and feasibility, to the marketing and operations. Management skills also feature alongside the development of competences as an owner and manager.|
|Strategic Management in Theory and Practice||20 credits||The aim is to deliver a holistic module that ties previously studied disciplines together at a strategic level to allow the student to interact with developing effective competitive and corporate level strategies. Particular emphasis is placed on strategy in intercultural context and global connectedness, complexity, and networks. The module also explores ethical dimensions of strategy practice in the context of sustainability and global governance frameworks. The module also aims to help you to develop a more critical approach by focusing on a range of models and frameworks from which the same problem can be approached comparatively. The latter stages of the module move towards strategic action from theory. In this phase the module will allow you to interact with decision making models, and the concept of strategy as an emergent art.|

- Copies of academic transcripts and certificates from all previous studies (i.e. secondary school and/or university certificates)
- One academic letter of recommendation
- A 300-500 word personal statement outlining the reasons for applying to your chosen programme, how you feel you will benefit from the programme of study, what contributions you will make to the University and how this will help your future career aspirations.
- A copy of your passport photograph (ID) page
- If you are not a native English speaker, proof of your English proficiency
- If you’ve already studied part of a degree course elsewhere, you may be able apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and join the programme at an advanced entry point. If you’d like to request entry part-way through a programme, make sure you state this clearly in your statement of purpose and provide us with the transcripts and module descriptions for the relevant study.
Step 2 Receive a response to your application
You can expect to receive a decision on your application within 10 working days of receipt of your completed application and supporting documents.
We will assess whether you meet our entry requirements and will notify you of the decision via email. UCAS applicants will also receive official notification via the UCAS system.
For some of our programmes, the selection process may include an interview or audition. Interviews/auditions can take the form of a one-to-one interview, group interview or portfolio review which may be conducted by telephone or as a Skype call. Arrangements of these are made between the Admissions Department and the applicant.
Step 3 Accepting your offer
If you wish to accept the offer you must pay the advance tuition fee deposit (non-refundable) to confirm your place.

What do fees include?
Fees cover the cost of all tuition and access to the University’s IT infrastructure and library learning resources.
What other costs should I budget for?
You will need to budget additional funds for accommodation and living expenses, travel, and any additional trips, visits, activities or courses (such as Summer programmes) that you choose to participate in outside of the tuition offered as part of the programme.
The library hold a limited number of copies of core text books and where possible in e-format. You will be encouraged to purchase your own text books and will need to budget approximately £80-£100 per year, depending on your programme of study.
When are fees paid?
Fees are payable in the following instalments:
- An initial non-refundable advance deposit paid when you accept your offer of a place
- The advance deposit is allocated against the first term’s fees
- Tuition fees (including fees for subsequent terms) are due two weeks in advance of classes commencing
Calculating fee increases
- The University sets tuition fees on an annual basis in line with the University's financial year which runs from 1 August to 31 July
- The fees quoted here are for one year of study for those starting in January 2019 or September 2019
- Fees for subsequent years of study are subject to fee inflation
- The University aims to keep annual fee increases in line with the University’s cost inflation. The expectation is that this will be no greater than UK consumer price inflation (CPI) plus 3%. There are occasionally variations to this dictated by the costs of running specific programmes or facilities required for our programmes
- As a registered charity, all fee increases are subject to approval of the Trustee Board thus ensuring that affordability for our students remains a primary concern in any decisions regarding fee increases
A wide range of curriculum delivery methods are used on the programme including; lectures, seminars, role plays, case studies, external guest speakers, e-learning via VLE, field trips, leadership experiences at another specialist location, seen and unseen examinations, presentations, written assignments, portfolio building, group work, simulations, peer assessments and workshops. Considerable emphasis is placed on self-directed personal development through assessments and module curricula.
As you progress through the levels of the programme, the emphasis shifts from learning to analysis and critical appraisal of the subject matter, reflecting your academic and personal development. We emphasise the practical application of academic learning. You will explore real-world case studies, visit different organisations and hear from regular guest lecturers, offering new perspectives from industry and academia.
A wide variety of assessments are used to assess student progress towards meeting intended programme learning outcomes. Students will receive feedback on formative assessments and be given the opportunity to demonstrate competency through summative submissions.

A Regent’s education provides you with a high level of personal attention, and this begins from the moment you apply to study with us. We want to understand who you are and what your skills and interests may be – we are interested in your potential, as well as your prior achievements. We review each application comprehensively and on its individual merit, considering all of your skills, interests and attributes.
If you are holding A levels, we would typically make you an offer at grades BBC.
We will also assess your application for proficiency in Mathematics, asking for a GCSE in this subject at grade A-C / 9-4 (or the international equivalent).
We receive applications each year from over 170 countries and are happy to assess all international qualifications. For example, if you are studying the International Baccalaureate, we would make an offer based on your successful completion of the IB Diploma; if you are studying an American High School Diploma, we would make an offer based on a minimum GPA of 2.8 plus three APs at grades 4, 4, 3.
English is the language of instruction, but it is not a language option. Of the nine languages offered at Regent's, you cannot study your native language. In addition, the programme does not allow students to take more than one language at beginner level.
At registration, if you are a non-beginner language student you will be required to take a diagnostic test in your chosen language. The results of this test will determine which language class you will be placed in.
English language requirements
We require proof of English Proficiency. For example, we ask for:
- IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in reading and writing
- Students who achieve either of the following IELTS scores will also meet our requirements, upon the condition that they complete our compulsory English for Academic Purposes module in their first academic year.
- Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum score of 6.0 in reading and writing
- Overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 5.5 in all four components
- Pearson’s Test for English (PTE): Overall score of 58, with 51 or above in each individual component

- A-level/GCSE/IGCSE English: grade C / 4 or above (for IGCSE certificates, please provide the Supplementary Certifying Statement with the breakdown of component grades)
- International Baccalaureate: Grade 5 in A1 or A2 English at Higher or Standard Level
