Additional Information

The design of the programme enables you to develop a full knowledge and understanding of business and management, to acquire the relevant language and cultural skills, to choose subject areas of interest from a wide range of options, and to take advantage of studying and working in a ‘foreign’ country.

Language study

You will be able to choose one core target language from Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Languages are taught with a marked focus on professional communication skills, which prepares you to succeed in your term abroad and beyond.

You can choose to study a new language or continue with one you already speak, however you must not have an A-level equivalent award issued by the country of the target language (e.g., a student cannot take French if they have a French Baccalauréat). You will need to confirm your language choice and have your level ascertained in a diagnostic test on enrolment.

*Please note that you cannot choose your native language as part of your degree.*

Study Abroad

You will study abroad in Term 2 of your second year, spending time in a foreign country to gain life-changing international experience. Your target language choice will determine which partner institution/s is/are available for you. For example, if you choose Mandarin Chinese as your target language, your study abroad will be in China.

We have partnerships with over a hundred institutions around the world. This provides students with the opportunity to strengthen intercultural understanding, gain exposure to a more varied selection of academic modes, as well as significantly driving up their language skills. The University’s Study Abroad & Exchange team will support you before, during and after your term abroad.

Work placements/internships

You will have the option to undertake a non-credit bearing placement or enterprise project which will prepare you with the practical skills to work in the global business arena.

The work placements provide practical enrichment of your learning, allowing you to test your knowledge in a variety of real-world business and cultural settings. Such experience is highly valued by potential employers and will significantly enhance your career prospects and employability after graduation.

The University’s Careers, Enterprise & Industry team will support you throughout your placement.

Elective Modules

The elective modules are related to business and management subject areas. You will undertake two elective modules in your third year of study, and you can choose the optional module based on your subject areas of interest.

Please note that all modules are subject to availability and timetabling constraints.
